NFTs are all the rage right now, but sometimes buyers can be in for some nasty surprises.
At the weekend, fans of the project pixelmona Pokemon clone intended to launch a new metaverse of collectible and playable characters was disappointing.
In recent months, Pixelmon has generated a lot of interest as a new generation of Pikachu and friends, even though its creators are not affiliated with the Pokemon Company.
When it was launched in early February, the founders raised a staggering $70 million, which became one of the largest launch sales of the NFT project. But at that moment details about the actual Pixelmon characters have yet to be revealed.
The company stated on twitter that “each #NFT Pixelmon is a fully 3D modeled character that you can interact with.”
But when the official design was released this weekend, Pixelmon’s success failed.
The illustrations are surprisingly bad and border on ridiculous. The characters are deformed, disfigured and pixelated to no avail. Many of them were half-hidden in a low-res grass field. Some were barely visible:
